Last year at this time, I had the pleasure of hosting a baby shower for one of my absolute best friends of nearly 30 years! I co-hosted with her sister & a few other gals at our condo in the city and we had a blast. It’s been so amazing to see her become a mom — and her little boy is the cutest! I can’t believe he’s going to be one in a few months!
If you plan to host a baby shower in the near future, I’m sharing the decor & DIY elements that we used to create this classic blue & white shower!
We knew the baby was going to be a boy, and didn’t want to go over the top with a theme, so when I saw these classic blue & white gingham tablecloths for sale, I snagged them and then planned the rest of the decor from there!
To help stay within our budget, I made DIY place cards, along with a few cute signs for the mimosa bar, buffet & gifts. I used good old fashioned stamps and an ink pad to create them! The signs were printed on blue & white cardstock that I got from Papersource. I also used the same paper to create the place cards & bows for a garland. I then added some gingham ribbon to the signs to tie them in with tablecloths & the rest of the decor!
I hung the DIY bow garland across our barcart where we offered fresh lemon water so guests could easily serve themselves throughout the party!
For the buffet table, I used our blue & white Chinoiserie vases as the centerpiece. I was able to find some beautiful hydrangeas, roses & spider mum from Mariano’s, which I then arranged in the vases — and stored overnight in our bathroom which is a little cooler so they stayed fresh! Below is a shot of the buffet table prior to the food being served. You can check out what was on the brunch menu at the bottom of this post. 🙂
For the place setting, I used simple white plates with navy & white striped napkins. Each table had a couple of flower arrangements going down the middle — and place cards were set out so gals could easily ind their seat.
To add a little fun, I set up mimosa bar over in a nook of our living room – and stocked it with orange juice, grapefruit juice & strawberry lemonade. Toppings including sliced strawberries, raspberries and lemon wedges — and of course there was plenty of champagne!
For dessert, we served Sweet Mandy B’s cake (a Chicago favorite!) and chocolate chip cookies made with light blue M&Ms which add the perfect touch of blue!
After dessert, we migrated to couch & the had the mama-to-be open her gifts from everyone! For my gift, I made the tiered diaper cake pictured below, which we also put on display to add to the decor!
Overall, we had a blast showering our mama-to-be — so much that a handful of us ended up hanging and enjoying mimosas well into the late afternoon!
I hope this helps give you some fresh & fun DIY ideas if you’re planning a baby shower! If you’re local to Chicago and would like help planning a shower in the nearby area, comment below or contact me through my website! And if you’re not nearby, but have questions, I’m happy to answer them!
